The rechargeable, MD-MF multifrequency hand-held detector adds another international design accolade to its 2025 launch, reinforcing Garrett’s checkpoint and venue-screening lineup.
Garrett Metal Detectors has received a second consecutive Red Dot Design Award for the Guide™ — the company’s flagship rechargeable handheld detector, reinforcing its position as both the industry’s performance benchmark and its most recognised product design.
Launched in 2025, the Guide replaced the nine-volt battery architecture of previous Garrett handheld models with a built-in 3.8 V lithium-ion cell rated for over 125 hours of continuous operation, rechargeable via USB-C in approximately five hours. The detector operates at around 55 kHz, carries an IP65 weatherproof rating, and is certified to military-specification drop-test standards.
The Red Dot jury cited the Guide’s microtextured dimpled rubber grip, its ergonomic balance across extended search sessions, and the clarity of its four-LED charge indicator as distinguishing elements in a product category that has historically prioritised function over form.
The Guide’s seven selectable sensitivity levels and offset button — which nullifies localised electromagnetic interference from reinforced concrete — have made it a preferred secondary screening tool at airports and stadium entry points where rebar interference is a recurring operational challenge. Garrett now holds Red Dot awards for two consecutive product generations.
