Built on the proven SPECTRUM platform, the new AI-assisted X-ray body scanner detects internally and externally concealed contraband at low radiation dose — debuted at the American Jail Association conference.
VMI Security unveiled SPECTRUM VISION at the American Jail Association Annual Conference and Exposition, bringing AI-assisted body scanning to the correctional-facility market for the first time through the company’s proven SPECTRUM platform architecture.
Contraband introduction into correctional facilities through human couriers — individuals who have swallowed or secreted items — represents one of the most persistent challenges facing jail and prison administrators. SPECTRUM VISION addresses this with a full-body X-ray scanner operating at a radiation dose calibrated to meet occupational health standards for frequent screening, allowing facilities to scan all individuals entering secure areas.
The system integrates AI-assisted image review that flags anomalies consistent with concealed objects, both internally and externally, and presents the operator with highlighted regions of interest rather than requiring manual review of a full-body scan. This materially reduces the cognitive load on screening officers and cuts review time per individual.
VMI confirmed that SPECTRUM VISION will be available through its global distribution network from Q4 2026. The system has already been evaluated by correctional authorities in three countries ahead of its commercial release.
